USDA Rural Development Funding and Application Basics

The recently passed 2007 Farm Bill has several components that will benefit rural communities including funding for a backlog of water and waster disposal applications.  Program and funding options from USDA will be discussed along with the basics of the Rural Development application process.

Preliminary Engineering Reports

Each year Rural Development National Office conducts internal audits of their water and waster disposal programs.  In this session, we will evaluate the results of the recent audit and discuss ways that will ensure that quality preliminary engineering reports are being produced in Kansas

The Impacts of FEMA Map Changes
2007 Flooding Disasters in Kansas

In 2007 over 30 Kansas counties were impacted by flooding, most notably those in the Southeastern corner of the state.  Activities in these counties as a result of the declared disasters has resulted in more readily available information that is necessary for development in the floodplain.  This information along with upcoming digital mapping products being produced by FEMA will be discussed.

Small Water System Financial Assistance Tools

Cathy Tucker-Vogel

An introduction to two new tools, Rate Check-Up and the EPA CUPPS Program will be provided.  These tools can be easily adapted to small and medium water systems and used to produce adequate water rates and provide assistance with asset management.

 

 

 

Investigation and Remediation of the Hutchinson Sink Hole

Mike Cochran, PG This presentation will include a discussion of the investigation and stabilization of the sink hole that occurred in January 2005 on the Mosaic salt mine property in Hutchinson.

 

 

 

Low Impact Development’s Impact on Water Quality

Constance Buckner

An overview of non-point source pollution abatement through implementation of LID practices and principals will be provided.
