Sid Arpin is a Vice President of BG Consultants and serves as principal in charge of their Hutchinson office. Sid started with BG Consultants while attending Kansas State University, where he received his BS in Civil Engineering in 1977.  He worked in their Olathe office from 1981 to 1985, and has been in charge of the Hutchinson office since 1985.

Sid is a member of  the American Society of Civil Engineers, the American Public Works Association, and has served as MATHCOUNTS coordinator at the chapter level for 25 years in KSPE.  He is currently president of the Hutchinson Rotary Club, serves on the Hutchinson Landmarks Commission, and has served on the ACEC Membership committee and the KCA/ACEC committee.  Sid and his wife Emily have three children, Hilary, Elliot, and James.

Mike Hess is a Vice President with HNTB Corporation and serves as the Office Leader for the Overland Park and Denver Offices which includes a combined staff of over 110 professionals. HNTB Corporation provides architectural, engineering, and planning services from over 60 offices nationwide with a total staff of over 3,500.

In addition to ACEC, Mike is an active member of the following professional organizations: National Society of Professional Engineers, Kansas Society of Professional Engineers, and the American Public Works Association. He has served on several committees within these organizations.

He earned both a B.S. and M.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Kansas and is a licensed professional engineer in Kansas, Colorado, and Virginia. Mike and his wife Kathleen have one daughter.

Tim Ross is a Senior Vice President with George Butler Associates, Inc. and serves on the firm’s Board of Directors. He heads up GBA’s Transportation Department, which includes the Bridge, Highways and Streets, Traffic Engineering, and Railroad Groups, and also oversees the firm’s Survey and Buildings Structural Groups. Tim received a BS degree in civil engineering from the University of Kansas in 1978 and joined GBA the same year.  He is a graduate of ACEC’s Senior Executive Institute Class XII.

 

Tim is an active member of the American Public Works Association and serves as a Director of the Kansas City Metro Chapter, the Transportation Engineers Association of Missouri, Heart of America Road Gang, National Society of Professional Engineers, and Kansas Society of Professional Engineers. He is also an active volunteer in the Kansas City community, raising funds for Ronald McDonald House of Kansas City and Animal Haven, a shelter for abandoned pets. He is a member of the City of Roeland Park’s Board of Zoning Appeals.

John Zey is a Principal and Managing Member of  GeoSource, LLC, a geotechnical engineering firm in Topeka.  John founded GeoSource in 2007 and has more than 35 years of experience in geotechnical engineering field.  John received BS degrees in Civil Engineering and Geology in 1975 from Kansas State University.  He also received a MS degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Kansas in 1979. 

John is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and Kansas Society of Professional Engineers.  He previously served on the KCEC Board between 1998 and 2001.  John and his wife Joyce have four children, Amy, David, Kristin and Terri.

Tom Orazem is a co-owner of Orazem & Scalora Engineering, P.A., a 12-person MEP consulting firm founded in Manhattan, KS in 1989.  Tom performs administrative and marketing functions as well as mechanical, electrical and plumbing system design; and he coordinates the efforts of staff engineers, draftspersons and special consultants.  Prior experience includes 8 years working for a MEP engineering firm in Dallas, TX; and 2 years teaching Lighting Systems and Building Electrical Systems design courses in the Department of Architectural Engineering at Kansas State University. 

Tom received a B.S. in Architectural Engineering from Kansas State University in 1981.  He is a registered professional engineer in nine States, and is a LEED® accredited professional.  He has served on the AIA/DFM/ACEC of Kansas Partnering Committee for the past two years.  His professional memberships include American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air Conditioning Engineers, National Society of Professional Engineers, Kansas Engineering Society, Illuminating Engineering Society of North America, National Fire Protection Association, American Council of Engineering Companies, United States Green Building Council. 

Tom serves on boards for the Riley County Rural Water District #1 and the Tri-Valley Chapter of the Kansas Society of Professional Engineers, and is a member of Knights of Columbus Council 8488. 

Tom and his wife Patricia live in Manhattan and have three children:  Erika, Nicole and Derek.

Tom Swenson is a Principal and Senior Vice President with TranSystems, a national transportation consulting firm headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri.

Tom graduated from the University of Kansas in 1977 with a degree in civil engineering.  He began his professional career with the Kansas Department of Transportation in what is now the Bureau of Transportation Safety and Technology.  In 1984 he joined Johnson, Brickell, Mulcahy and Associates, a consulting firm now known as TranSystems.  He is a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) and a certified Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE).

With ACEC of Kansas, Tom has served on the KDOT Liaison committee, chaired the Partnering Conference in 2007, and been on the PAC Fundraising committee for the past three years.  He has also had the opportunity to help distribute state PAC funds and assess proposed legislation for its impact on engineering and our businesses.

Tom is also active in the National Society of Professional Engineers, belonging to both the Kansas and Missouri state organizations.  He served as an officer for the Missouri Western Chapter (President in 2003-2004) and chaired MATHCOUNTS for 14 years.  He belongs to the Institute of Transportation Engineers and is active with the Missouri Valley Section, having served as President in 1996 and currently serving as Section Administrator and Historian.

Tom was raised in Leawood, Kansas and currently resides in Overland Park.

Bruce Barnes is a Vice President and Senior Client Service Manager for CDM with responsibility for project development and client service in Kansas and Oklahoma. Mr. Barnes has 26 years of experience in water, wastewater, solid waste, and environmental remediation projects for municipal and industrial clients with a variety of engineering services, including facility planning, evaluation, facility siting, public education, design, and construction management.  

In addition to ACEC Bruce is active in the member associations of WEF and AWWA in both Kansas and Oklahoma. Bruce has been responsible as a member of the KsAWWA  Water For People committee for organizing the “Water for People Gumbo for Us” fund raising event  that has raised over $25,000 over the past two years and helped educate the public on the plight of third world nations that lack clean drinking water and sanitary facilities.

Bruce is a proud Civil Engineering graduate of Kansas State University. He worked summers during school with the Manhattan Public Works Department, 8 years in Dallas with a national consulting firm, 13 years in Wichita with a local consultant and is in his sixth year with CDM in Wichita and Norman, OK.

Bruce and his wife Cyndi have 3 children, Nick, Kelli and Megan and reside in Valley Center, Kansas.

Troy Eisenbraun is a Vice President with Wilson & Company, Inc. and manager of the transportation and civil engineering design group in the company’s Salina office.  He joined Wilson & Company in 1986 after spending more than 5 years with the Kansas Department of Transportation.  Wilson & Company is a multi-discipline consulting firm with 14 offices in 8 states.

Along with ACEC, Troy is a member the following professional organizations: National Society of Professional Engineers, Kansas Society of Professional Engineers and the American Society of Civil Engineers.  He earned a B.S. in Civil Engineering in 1980 from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City, South Dakota, and is a licensed professional engineer in Kansas, Missouri, and Nebraska.

Clinton Robinson has been with Black & Veatch Corporation for 23 years. He is currently an Associate Vice President and provides engineering studies, design and construction related services in both North and South America. He has been involved in over 50 water projects from Minnesota to Argentina.

Along with ACEC, his civic and community activities reflect a great interest and passion for education and economic development. He is serving in his second term as a Board Member for the Blue Valley School District and is currently the President. He also served on the Johnson County Planning Commission and serves on the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce Johnson County Business Leadership Council. Mr. Robinson also serves on the Board of Directors of Youthfriends.

He was, literally, a born Jayhawk: his great grandfather was one of the first three professors at the University of Kansas. Mr. Robinson is a fourth-generation KU graduate as is his wife Britton. Naturally then, his community involvement includes generous service to his alma mater, including the Kansas City KU Alumni Association, the advisory board to KU’s School of Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering and served as a Founding Member and Chair of the Recent Graduates Advisory Board.

Mr. Robinson has been married for twenty years and also serves in one of our community’s most challenging capacities: as parent to 3 daughters: Kirsten, 16, Remington, 13, and Karryn, 6.

Scott Heidner, JD has been with ACEC of Kansas since the summer of 2001, after three years of serving as the legislative and policy analyst for the Topeka City Council.  Scott graduated from the University of Kansas in 1994, where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science.  Scott also received his Juris Doctorate degree in 1997 from the University of Kansas School of Law. Scott serves as the Executive Director of ACEC of Kansas.
